Grigor Dimitrov and Elizara Yaneva set for US Open qualifiers

Bulgarian tennis players Grigor Dimitrov and Elizara Yaneva have been assigned their opponents for the US Open qualifying rounds in New York.

Grigor Dimitrov, the top Bulgarian male player, will face Italy’s Lorenzo Giustino in the first round. This marks an unusual situation for Dimitrov, who has participated in the US Open main draw for 12 consecutive years. To reach the main tournament, he must win three qualifying matches. His best performance at this event was reaching the semifinals in 2019.

In the women’s qualifying draw, 19-year-old Elizara Yaneva will face Czech player Lucie Havlickova. The two have previously met in Trnava, where Havlickova won after a third-set tiebreak. A victory for Yaneva would set up a second-round match against either Moyuka Uchijima or Polona Hercog.
