Grigor Dimitrov reaches Wimbledon round of 16 despite roof delays and strong competition
Bulgarian No. 114 Grigor Dimitrov received a Wimbledon wild card and advanced to the round of 16 after three wins. He defeated Dean Suini, Jakub Menshik and Matteo Berrettini to set up a last‑16 clash with Briton Arthur Fery.
During his matches the central court roof was closed twice because of lighting problems, causing ten‑ to fifteen‑minute pauses that disrupted his rhythm. Dimitrov expressed disappointment with the interruptions, while fellow player Taylor Fritz commented that roof closures may be necessary if lighting deteriorates.
Dimitrov’s progress makes him the sole representative of the host nation still in the tournament, and his next match will test his form against a top‑10 opponent.
