Grimming mountain rescue: Mountaineer airlifted following medical emergency

A 41-year-old mountaineer from Vienna required emergency medical evacuation on Sunday, October 18, while climbing the Grimming in the Liezen district of Styria. The individual, who was on a tour with a 50-year-old companion, reported suffering from severe, continuous muscle cramps across his entire body around 11:30 AM.

Emergency services utilized the ‘Libelle Steiermark’ police helicopter to perform a winch rescue. The operation involved the Liezen Alpine Police, the Federal Ministry of the Interior's helicopter service, and six mountain rescuers from the Bad Mitterndorf station. Following the rescue, the man was transported to the Bad Aussee state hospital. Authorities noted that both climbers were properly equipped with helmets, harnesses, and appropriate footwear, and weather conditions at the time of the incident were favorable.
