Grindr experiences outage in Dallas during Republican convention

The LGBTQ+ dating application Grindr experienced an outage in the Dallas, Texas area on Wednesday, coinciding with the start of the Republican National Committee’s midterm convention at the American Airlines Center.

Data from Downdetector indicated that the highest concentration of reported service disruptions occurred in and around Dallas. This phenomenon has been noted during previous political gatherings; for instance, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported similar activity during the 2024 Republican National Convention in Milwaukee. Historical data from the 2016 convention in Cleveland also showed a 66 percent increase in user traffic around the event hub.
