Grizzly 399 emerges from hibernation in Grand Teton National Park

Grizzly 399, a well-known matriarch residing in Grand Teton National Park, emerged from hibernation in the spring of 2023 along with her cubs. The bear has gained international recognition as an icon of resilience due to her longevity and her success in raising numerous cubs within the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.

Estimated to have been born around 1996, Grizzly 399 is considered remarkably old for a wild grizzly. Her frequent appearances near roads have made her a popular subject for photographers and wildlife enthusiasts, though her presence also highlights the ongoing importance of conservation efforts and the challenges bears face due to human activity.
