Grêmio undergoes squad and staff changes under Renato Portaluppi

Following the return of Renato Portaluppi as head coach of Grêmio, the club is undergoing significant structural and squad changes. Portaluppi is rebuilding his technical staff, which includes the return of assistant James Freitas and the addition of Alexandre Mendes. The coaching staff is also focusing heavily on physical conditioning and tactical adjustments, such as implementing a three-defender system, during the current FIFA international break.

Regarding the squad, Portaluppi intends to re-evaluate left-back Caio Paulista, who is currently on loan from Palmeiras. After struggling to secure a starting position under previous coach Luís Castro, Caio may receive a new opportunity to prove his value. Palmeiras is monitoring his progress, as a resurgence in performance could increase his market value or lead to a permanent transfer via Grêmio’s purchase option.

Additionally, the coach has integrated youth prospects João Borne and Fellipe Magalhães into first-team training sessions. Grêmio, currently in the relegation zone of the Brasileirão, is using this period to prepare for their next match against Remo on October 7.
