Grêmio halts Nicolás Valentini transfer over salary demands
Brazilian club Grêmio has paused negotiations to acquire Argentine defender Nicolás Valentini from Italy's Fiorentina after the player's salary expectations were deemed too high. Earlier reports indicated a possible €3.5 million deal, roughly R$20 million, structured as a loan with a purchase option. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio had spoken of an agreement, while Brazilian outlet Correio do Povo confirmed that no contract had been signed and the clubs could not reach a financial accord. Grêmio cited the need to keep its wage bill within limits and said the transfer could be revisited only if Valentini reduces his wage demands. No official announcement has been made, and the club is already exploring other low‑cost options in the market.
