Grêmio resumes training and lines up preseason friendlies
Grêmio returned to work at its Luiz Carvalho training centre on 17 June, beginning a month‑long preseason period under coach Luis Castro. Five first‑team players were unavailable for the initial session: midfielder Gabriel Mec, forward Amuzu, defender Noriega, midfielder Villasanti and striker Roger, each given permission by the club for personal or injury reasons.
The club confirmed a friendly against Cascavel on 27 June in Paraná and is negotiating two further matches with Chapecoense – tentatively in Mato Grosso – and Cruzeiro, with a July 11‑12 date under discussion. These games are intended to provide match fitness before Grêmio’s competitive fixtures restart in late July, including a South American Cup tie against Bolívar and a possible Brasileirão match versus Mirassol.
The preseason schedule aims to bring the squad back to full readiness after a break that followed the club’s 3‑1 loss to Corinthians on 31 May.
