Grêmio supporter dies of cardiac arrest during match
Euclides Maciel dos Santos, a 74-year-old Grêmio supporter, died following a cardiorespiratory arrest during a match against Palmeiras at the Arena do Grêmio on Sunday, September 20.
Witnesses and family members reported that the man, who was accompanied by his granddaughters, fell ill in the Superior Leste sector. While initial assistance was provided by a nearby supporter and civil firefighters, the response time of the advanced medical team from Unimed Porto Alegre has become a point of contention. Some witnesses estimated a delay of 20 to 30 minutes before the advanced medical support arrived.
Grêmio and Unimed Porto Alegre have issued statements regarding the incident. Grêmio noted that the victim was found already in cardiac arrest and received immediate attention from on-site firefighters. Unimed Porto Alegre stated that emergency teams followed all established advanced life support protocols immediately, though they declined to comment specifically on the allegations of delay.
