Grêmio's planned €12 million transfer for Gabriel Mec collapses

Negotiations for 18‑year‑old forward Gabriel Mec to move from Brazil's Grêmio to Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk for around €12 million broke down at the final stage. Financial issues, personal concerns and a lack of enthusiasm from the player led to the deal’s cancellation, leaving Mec with the Grêmio squad for the time being.

Agent Cleber Eduardo, representing Mec through Hub Agent Sports, issued a statement denying rumours that the player would leave the club on a free transfer. He said a renewal clause exists that would keep Mec at Grêmio if no international move materialises before the transfer window closes, and mentioned interest from clubs such as Hull City. The player is expected to feature in Grêmio’s upcoming league match against Fluminense.
