Grüne Liga Brandenburg challenges Red Bull expansion plans

The environmental organization Grüne Liga Brandenburg has filed legal action against a new development plan for the expansion of the Red Bull and Rauch production site in Baruth/Mark. The group has submitted an urgent application to the Higher Administrative Court of Berlin-Brandenburg to prevent forest clearing in the area.

This follows a previous court ruling in February that halted an earlier development plan for the site, which is intended to include a new can manufacturing plant for Red Bull. The environmental group argues that the forest contains protected habitats for birds and bats and serves as a vital CO2 sink.

Red Bull has projected a start date of 2028 for the new facility, which aims to produce approximately 3.3 billion cans annually. While the expansion has faced long-standing protests regarding water consumption, the companies maintain that water usage will not increase beyond current levels.
