GRÜNE NRW proposes state-wide safe school cycling routes
The GRÜNE NRW party has announced a state-wide initiative titled ‘Sicheres Schulumfeld’ (Safe School Environment) to improve cycling and pedestrian safety for children across North Rhine-Westphalia. The goal is to enable children to travel to school independently and safely by establishing reliable infrastructure and clear standards.
Key components of the plan include the establishment of safe school cycling routes, the promotion of temporary car-free zones around schools during drop-off and pick-up times, and the implementation of ‘walking bus’ measures. The initiative also emphasizes the need for better public transport connections and safe walking paths to ensure mobility for all families, regardless of their ability to afford bicycles.
