Grünenthal to acquire Bayer's cancer drug Stivarga

Grünenthal has reached an agreement to acquire the global rights to the cancer medication Stivarga (regorafenib) from Bayer AG for an amount of up to 375 million euros. The transaction, which is subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals, is expected to be finalized in late 2026 or early 2027.

Stivarga is an oral multikinase inhibitor used to treat advanced cancers, including metastatic colorectal cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). The drug is currently approved and available in more than 90 markets worldwide.

For Bayer, the sale is part of a broader strategy to divest non-core activities, strengthen financial flexibility, and focus its business portfolio. This move comes as the company continues to manage significant legal liabilities in the United States related to glyphosate, where the company seeks to transform unpredictable litigation risks into calculable financial obligations.
