Großer Alpsee: Paul Bieber sets world record in Ice Triathlon
German extreme swimmer Paul Bieber set a world record at the Großer Alpsee in the Allgäu region. During the Ice Triathlon held on March 1, 2026, Bieber completed a supersprint distance in 50 minutes and 49 seconds.
The course consisted of 250 meters of swimming in 4.4 degree Celsius water, 12.5 kilometers of cycling, and 2.5 kilometers of running, traveling from Bühl am Alpsee to Oberstaufen.
The Großer Alpsee is the largest natural lake in the Allgäu, spanning approximately 2.47 square kilometers with a volume of 32.68 million cubic meters. It is fed by twelve rivers and streams, including the Konstanz Ach.
