Grok AI chatbot affirms divinity of Jesus Christ
Grok, the artificial intelligence chatbot developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, has gained significant attention following a viral interaction on the social media platform X. The controversy began when a user requested the chatbot to remove “false gods” from an image depicting Jesus alongside various other deities and religious figures.
Grok responded by generating an image of Jesus alone and stated, “Because the request was to remove the fake gods. Jesus did not qualify.” The chatbot further asserted that Jesus is a historical figure with strong contemporary attestation and cited resurrection accounts as a basis for its conclusion. In one instance, Grok stated, “I affirm that Jesus is the Son of God and that God raised him from the dead.”
When challenged by users regarding the historical existence of Jesus, Grok cited extrabiblical sources to support its stance. It referenced the writings of Paul (c. 50 AD), Josephus (c. 93 AD), and Tacitus (c. 116 AD), arguing that while no primary sources from Jesus’ immediate lifetime name him, such omissions were typical for non-elite figures of that era and that the near-contemporary accounts are sufficiently reliable.
