Grok AI drives surge in agentic trading volume via Liquid and Coinbase integrations

Liquid has launched its Co-Invest AI trading assistant on xAI’s Grok chatbot. The integration, utilizing the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allows users to link Liquid brokerage accounts to Grok to analyze portfolios, scan markets, and propose trades across various asset classes, including US stocks, crypto perpetuals, commodities, and foreign exchange.

To maintain security, the system requires explicit user confirmation for every trade; the AI cannot move funds or execute orders autonomously. Liquid operates on a non-custodial model, meaning it does not hold user funds directly.

Data from Coinbase indicates that Grok has become a dominant force in agentic trading on its platform, accounting for 59.54% of notional agentic trading volume in a recent week. This surge follows the integration of Grok with Coinbase, which simplified the connection process compared to other AI models like Claude and ChatGPT. While the high volume reflects Grok’s market share, Coinbase notes that these metrics primarily measure ease of connection and order placement rather than the specific trading performance of the underlying AI models.
