Grok releases first episode of AI-generated ‘Odyssey’ series
Elon Musk’s AI platform, Grok, has released the first seven minutes of an AI-generated adaptation of Homer’s ‘The Odyssey’. Labeled as “Episode 1” of a series, the project is a creative collaboration between Grok Imagine, Wonder Studios, and director Dev Walker.
The release follows Musk’s July promise to produce a “historically accurate” feature-length version of the epic by the end of 2026. This initiative serves as a response to Christopher Nolan’s recent cinematic adaptation, which Musk criticized for its casting choices, specifically regarding the inclusion of non-white and transgender actors.
Critical reception of the seven-minute clip has been largely negative. While some viewers noted moments of visual realism, many critics described the work as “artistically empty,” citing “soulless” and “wooden” performances, forced dialogue, and a lack of narrative rhythm. Observers also noted that the production features an exclusively white cast and uses English dialogue rather than Homeric Greek, leading to questions regarding its claimed historical fidelity.
