Gromovi battalion marches to honor 35th anniversary of Novi Farkašić defense

Approximately 200 members of the 2nd Mechanized Battalion ‘Gromovi’ of the Croatian Army conducted a traditional march to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the defense of Novi Farkašić. The march spanned over 15 kilometers, beginning at the ‘Pukovnik Predrag Matanović’ barracks in Petrinja and concluding at the memorial for fallen defenders in Novi Farkašić.

The participants marched in full military gear to honor the events of October 18, 1991, during the Croatian War of Independence, when local defenders successfully repelled superior enemy forces. Major Mirko Muhek, commander of the Gromovi battalion, noted that the march served to preserve the unit's traditions and honor those who prevented enemy advancement toward Zagreb.

The event concluded with veterans and current soldiers lighting candles at the memorial. The commemoration was attended by representatives from the 2nd Guards Brigade Gromovi War Veterans Association and the Crne Mambe War Veterans Association.
