Gronau construction accident kills two workers
Two construction workers died following a collapse of concrete stairs at a school expansion site in Gronau, located in the western Münsterland region of Germany.
The accident occurred in a large shaft where prefabricated staircases were being lifted and installed by a crane. According to police reports, several levels of stair components had already been assembled when the collapse happened. Two workers were crushed beneath the structure.
Two other individuals were injured in the incident, though their specific medical conditions have not been released. Emergency services, including 35 firefighters, police, and technical relief teams, responded to the scene. Local authorities and the occupational safety office are currently investigating the cause of the accident, specifically whether a component fell from the crane or if the entire structure collapsed.
