Groningen 4Daagse wraps up with festive final day

The second edition of the Groningse 4Daagse walking event concluded on Friday with its final stage heading south. About 3,300 participants completed the four‑day trek, and organizer André Pater described the festival as a success, noting the positive atmosphere and lack of complaints. He said the event will return next year with the sunflower as its new symbol and is already planning the third edition.

Live‑blog coverage highlighted several walkers on the last day, including Janneke, who crossed the finish line after a demanding effort, and friends Joyce and Elwin, who celebrated with a medal and sunflowers handed out by volunteer Niiwino. Young participant Mika marked his ninth birthday with family from Amstelveen, while other groups paused for a picnic by the Paterswoldsemeer. The finish on the Grote Markt was marked by singing, dancing and a communal sense of pride in Groningen.

Overall, participants praised the organization and the festive mood, describing the 4Daagse as a “grand celebration” for the city.
