Pune awarded 2032 UCI Road World Championships

During the UCI Congress in Montreal, the Union Cycliste Internationale announced new hosts for upcoming world championships. Pune, India, has been awarded the 2032 UCI Road World Championships, marking the first time the event will be held in India. The decision follows a competitive bidding process where Pune was selected over the Dutch region of Groningen and Drenthe.

In a strategic move to accommodate both strong candidates, the UCI also awarded the 2034 Road World Championships and the Para-Cycling Road World Championships to the Groningen and Drenthe region in the Netherlands. This dual assignment aims to expand the sport's global reach, moving beyond its traditional European core.

Additionally, the UCI discussed upcoming regulatory changes for 2027, including new safety specifications for barriers in the final 200 meters of races and the implementation of GPS tracking for riders and vehicles to improve safety and real-time monitoring. The organization also noted that discussions regarding the Lugano Charter are ongoing to address evolving bicycle technology and design regulations.
