Groningen and Drenthe bid to host 2032 UCI Road World Championships

A delegation from the Groningen and Drenthe region is presenting a bid to the International Cycling Union (UCI) in Montréal, Canada, to host the 2032 UCI Road World Championships. The decision is expected to be announced on Wednesday at 17:00 Canadian time.

The bid faces competition from India. Despite reports suggesting India might be the preferred choice, organizers in the Netherlands remain optimistic. The Nij Begun initiative has allocated 20 million euros toward the organization of the event.

Jakob Klompien, a coordinator for the Nij Begun Economic Agenda, stated that the goal is not only economic investment but also to increase regional self-awareness and visibility, effectively putting the provinces ‘in the showcase’.
