Groningen laser speed campaign reveals 67% of drivers exceed limits

During the annual laser‑gun traffic‑safety campaign in Groningen, organizers measured 5,713 vehicles across 40 locations in the province. A total of 3,804 drivers – about 67% – were recorded driving faster than the permitted speed, with some sites seeing up to 90% of motorists exceed the limit.

The checks were carried out on roads limited to 30 km/h and took place during daylight hours. Schoolchildren from grades 7 and 8 assisted with the speed monitoring at several sites, emphasizing the focus on safety near schools. No fines were issued as part of the awareness‑raising initiative.
