Groningen province approves 15 million euro contribution for Kardinge ice rink

The Province of Groningen has approved a 15 million euro contribution toward the development of a new ice rink at Kardinge. This funding is intended to replace the current aging facility, which is the only year-round skating venue in the province.

The project is part of a larger plan to transform Kardinge into a comprehensive sports center. This redevelopment is expected to include a high-performance sports hall with a 3,000-seat capacity, various training halls, a new swimming pool, and the new ice rink.

The provincial contribution is subject to several conditions. The municipality of Groningen must further develop the plans, ensuring the project is financially and organizationally viable and provides added value for the entire province. Once these conditions are met and a final decision is made by the municipality, the funds will be made available.
