Groningen's new bus station opens, boosting regional public transport

The new bus station on the south side of Groningen railway station was officially opened in late June, marking a key milestone for public transport in the northern Netherlands. The facility is linked directly to the passenger tunnel, allowing faster, safer and more comfortable transfers between train and bus services. Regional authority Regio Groningen‑Assen contributed financially and its director Harmke Vlieg attended the ceremony.

From 28 June all Qbuzz buses and the Arriva replacement service to Leer began operating from the new station, which is divided into platforms A (left of the tunnel) and B (right). The redesign eliminates the need for passengers to cross bus traffic, and the saved operating costs are being used to run extra services. International operators such as Flixbus continue to use the former bus‑station location on Stationsweg.
