Messina awards €4.4 million for provincial road upgrades
The Metropolitan City of Messina has completed the tendering process for four contracts covering extraordinary maintenance of the provincial road network in the city. The provisional awards total €4,441,520 and are financed by the Sicilian Region and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Mobility. After the legally required checks, contracts will be signed and work will commence, aiming to boost traffic safety, improve network efficiency and increase resilience to extreme weather events.
The projects cover the Centro Nord, Sud, Nord and Centro Sud sectors, each valued at roughly €1 million. Companies such as Suprema Appalti, F. lli Destro, G.O.M. Edilgeneral and Zeus Costruzioni secured the contracts with bids around 32% below the baseline. Mayor Federico Basile said the award “represents a significant result in the road‑network renewal programme,” while the Viability Directorate, led by Biagio Privitera, coordinated the plan.
