Grosseto hospice project advances with new regional agreement

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Tuscany Region and the Ministry of Health to advance the construction of a new hospice in Grosseto, located at the Villa Pizzetti complex. This development follows years of waiting and aims to expand palliative care services in the area.

The current hospice, ‘Roberto Ciabatti’, operates with limited capacity, providing only eight residential beds and two day-hospice spots. The funding request for the new facility, which includes additional local interventions totaling approximately 30 million euros, was originally submitted by the Asl in 2022.

Local political representatives from the Democratic Party (Pd) have expressed satisfaction with the resource allocation but are calling for the new Director General of Asl Toscana sud est to expedite the process. They emphasize that the project should be prioritized alongside other regional health needs, such as the reorganization of the oncology department and the upgrading of pathology services.
