The local Democratic Party (PD) in Grottaglie has issued a formal appeal to Mayor Ciro D’Alò, calling for a halt to current urban and commercial developments to allow for public consultation with citizens and economic sectors.
The political dispute centers on two main issues: the implementation of new bicycle lanes and the establishment of a new commercial and dining complex near the Ceramics District. The PD criticized the current approach to sustainable mobility, describing the new bike lanes as “mere facades” that lack a unified design, adequate bike racks, or effective connection points to the rest of the city.
Regarding commercial expansion, the party acknowledged the need for job creation in a region affected by industrial crises but warned against using employment as an excuse to bypass comprehensive urban planning. They are demanding a shared vision that integrates traffic management, parking, and the protection of local commerce and craftsmanship.
