Grottaglie artisans discuss the future of historic workshops
The event ‘L’Eredità Plasmata – Botteghe Artigiane Storiche. Storia e Futuro della Ceramica di Grottaglie’ was held on October 25 at Casa Vestita in Grottaglie. Promoted by CATA Casartigiani Puglia and Casartigiani Puglia, the initiative brought together parliamentarians, mayors, entrepreneurs, master artisans, and citizens to discuss the preservation of Puglia's artisanal heritage.
Central to the discussion was the Grottaglie ceramics industry and its role in the region's economic and cultural identity. Participants addressed the challenges facing historic workshops, specifically the need for institutional support to overcome economic difficulties and the importance of fostering generational turnover to ensure traditional skills and techniques are passed down to younger workers.
The initiative aligns with Regional Law no. 30/2021, which is dedicated to promoting and valuing historical and traditional activities. Stefano Castronuovo, regional coordinator of Casartigiani Puglia, emphasized that preserving these workshops is essential for safeguarding the memory and identity of the territory.
