Grounded 2 gets major 'Into the Abyss' update and PS5 launch on Aug 11

Obsidian Entertainment announced that the upcoming free update "Into the Abyss" for Grounded 2 will arrive on August 11 for PC (Steam) and Xbox Series X|S, with the PlayStation 5 version of the game releasing the same day. The expansion introduces a new pond biome that lets players explore both surface and underwater environments, adding a zipline travel system, a diving suit with unlimited oxygen, new weapons such as a harpoon, and a water‑compatible buggy. Additional content includes the Gnarly Bark area, a central bridge, new armor sets crafted from enemy materials, and various environmental tweaks to unify land and water gameplay.

During a special presentation, director Chris Parker and producer Miles Winzeler showcased about an hour of gameplay, highlighting the five biomes and the central water mirror that influences vegetation and insect behavior. The update marks a key milestone for the title, which survived recent restructuring at Xbox Game Studios and continues to grow its player community ahead of the PS5 launch.
