Groupe Chanv hosts panel to discuss cannabis and hemp industry evolution
Groupe Chanv, a company based in Saint-Cyrille-de-Wendover, Quebec, recently hosted a panel discussion to address the evolution and challenges of the cannabis and hemp industries. The event brought together approximately 120 industry stakeholders, entrepreneurs, and political figures to discuss the sector's future and work toward reducing social stigma.
Dany Lefebvre, founder and CEO of Groupe Chanv, highlighted the company's 13-year history of navigating complex regulatory frameworks and public perceptions. The company currently employs about 100 people and manages approximately 40,000 plants, focusing on a business model that includes cultivation, transformation, and the production of natural health products.
The discussion also addressed recent political tensions. Following a televised debate where Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette made a controversial remark regarding cannabis businesses in Bécancour, Timothée Gauthier, CEO of Greentone, expressed concern over the continued stigmatization of the industry. Premier Fréchette has since contacted Gauthier to apologize and discuss the industry's specific challenges.
