Gürsel Tekin discusses CHP presidential candidacy and Turkish politics

Gürsel Tekin, General Coordinator of the Republican People's Party (CHP), shared his views on several key political issues during the ‘Anadolu Sohbetleri’ program organized by the Turkish Press Federation.

Regarding the upcoming presidential elections, Tekin stated that the CHP has a prepared candidate capable of gaining public trust, noting that the name will be announced by the party leader when the time is appropriate. He also addressed the possibility of Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu running again, suggesting that Kılıçdaroğlu should remain in office until he has successfully delivered the party to a ‘safe harbor.’

On domestic security, Tekin expressed his full support for the ‘Terror-free Turkey’ process, emphasizing that national interests should take precedence over political calculations. He also commented on the political climate within the CHP, attributing recent resignations to the influence of media reports that have ‘infected’ the electorate and caused internal divisions.

Additionally, Tekin touched upon the political balance within the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council, warning of potential shifts in leadership, and discussed Turkey's foreign policy stance regarding maritime jurisdiction and regional alliances.
