Gürsu aims for record Santa Maria pear production in Bursa

The Gürsu district in Bursa is anticipating record-breaking pear production, particularly for the geographically indicated Santa Maria variety. Favorable climate conditions this year have significantly boosted yields compared to the previous year, when cold weather limited regional production of Santa Maria and Deveci pears to between 85,000 and 90,000 tons.

Kamil Dönmez, President of the Gürsu Chamber of Agriculture, stated that the Santa Maria harvest in Gürsu could reach 75,000 tons, up from the typical 50,000–55,000 tons. On a broader scale, Bursa is expected to produce at least 100,000 tons of Santa Maria pears, contributing to a national estimate of 120,000–130,000 tons. When including the districts of Kestel, İnegöl, and İznik, Bursa's total pear output may reach 130,000 tons.

According to 2026 estimates from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), total pear production across Turkey is projected to rise by 43%, reaching approximately 610,000 tons.
