Grupa Azoty faces instability amid withdrawn anti-dumping complaint

Grupa Azoty is facing significant economic challenges following the premature withdrawal of an anti-dumping complaint regarding the import of Russian urea. The complaint, originally filed by the association Fertilizers Europe, alleged that Russian urea was being imported at dumping prices due to artificially low gas costs. While the European Commission investigation was expected to conclude in November 2026, the withdrawal was announced on October 14, 2026.

Local officials in Tarnów have expressed deep concern over the company’s situation, noting its role as the region’s largest employer. City councilors have proposed a resolution to stabilize the company, calling for cooperation across political divides to protect jobs and local businesses. Tarnów Mayor Jakub Kwaśny stated that the city is monitoring the situation and has communicated with the company’s management and the Ministry of State Assets.

Labor unions, including NSZZ Solidarność, have described the withdrawal of the complaint as a blow to the company and its employees. Grupa Azoty responded by stating that the withdrawal should be viewed in the context of changing market and regulatory conditions, but emphasized that they remain committed to protecting the European fertilizer industry.
