Grupo Carso plans aggressive investment to boost oil production
Grupo Carso is preparing an aggressive investment program through its oil division, Zamajal, to expand production via well drilling, rehabilitation, and the incorporation of offshore platforms. The plan focuses on the Ichalkil and Pokoch offshore fields located off the coast of Campeche, Mexico.
Currently, these assets produce between 15,000 and 15,500 barrels of oil per day. The company aims to increase the number of operating wells to nine by the end of 2026 and potentially reach approximately 15 wells in an initial stage by acquiring additional jack-up drilling platforms. Further expansion is projected for mid-2027.
A key component of this expansion involves Zamajal acquiring the remaining 50 percent stake in the Ichalkil and Pokoch fields, which is currently held by Lukoil International through its subsidiary, Fieldwood Energy. While an agreement to acquire these assets has been reached, the transaction remains pending final authorization from the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) due to existing sanctions on Lukoil.
