Grupo Dia to sell Argentine business to Grupo de Narváez
Spanish retailer Grupo Dia has agreed to sell its 100% stake in its Argentine subsidiary to Dorinka SRL, a company controlled by Grupo de Narváez (GDN), for approximately $53.8 million. The transaction, which is expected to close on November 12, marks the end of the Spanish chain’s nearly 30-year presence in Argentina.
Through this acquisition, GDN, which already operates the ChangoMás supermarket chain, will incorporate more than 900 stores, including both company-owned and franchised locations. This expansion will bring GDN’s total network to over 1,000 stores across 22 provinces, supporting more than 15,000 direct and indirect jobs.
For Grupo Dia, the divestment is part of a strategic transformation to focus resources on its most profitable markets, specifically Spain, where it operates over 2,400 neighborhood supermarkets. The sale also aims to eliminate the need for future capital injections into the Argentine subsidiary, which had recorded accounting losses of €54 million in the twelve months ending June 2026 due to a challenging macroeconomic environment and declining consumer spending.
