Grupo Energía Bogotá and La Caisse form major Brazilian power platform
Grupo Energía Bogotá (GEB) has finalized an operation with the Canadian fund La Caisse to create Verene Energia S.A., a major electric transmission platform in Brazil. The new entity is expected to rank among the top five companies in the Brazilian electricity transmission sector.
The transaction received necessary approvals from Brazilian authorities, including the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) and the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE), as well as consent from relevant creditors. Verene Energia integrates 26 electrical concessions across 17 Brazilian states, encompassing over 9,000 kilometers of transmission lines.
GEB estimates the new platform will have an annual permitted revenue (net proportional RAP) of approximately 2.84 billion Brazilian reais, representing about 7% of Brazil’s total electricity transmission system revenue. The deal involves the contribution of GEB’s interests in Argo Energia Empreendimentos e Participações S.A. and Gebbras Participações Ltda., alongside capital investments and transmission assets from La Caisse.
