Grupo Flor Serrana releases debut album of traditional siriri music

Grupo Flor Serrana has released its first phonographic work, titled "Flor Serrana – As Tradições da Serra Abaixo." The 19-track album, available on Spotify and YouTube, documents the musical traditions of siriri and cururu from the Baixada Cuiabana region.

Funded by the Paulo Gustavo Law through the Gambira Cultural tender and executed by the Cuiabá City Hall, the project aims to preserve intangible cultural heritage that was previously transmitted primarily through oral tradition during community and religious celebrations. The repertoire includes public domain works, original compositions, and reinterpretations by masters such as Nezinho, Jorginho, Jhordan Costa, Eduardo Andrade, Adelino Costa, Leocádio Silva, and Vinicius Gonçalves.

Founded in 2012 by Helena Maria and Nezinho, the group focuses on the religious and cultural identity of the Serra Abaixo communities, featuring themes of devotion to Santo Antônio, São Gonçalo, and Nossa Senhora Aparecida. The album's arrangements utilize traditional instruments including the ganzá, mocho, and viola de cocho.

The group is currently preparing for international representation at the 1st International Folklore Festival in Maceió, scheduled for late September.
