Grupo Oesía to develop key subsystems for European quantum satellite project

Grupo Oesía, a Spanish company specializing in dual-use technology, has been selected to develop two critical subsystems for the QKD-GEO project. This initiative represents Europe’s first geostationary quantum key distribution system, designed to establish foundations for secure quantum communications.

Funded by European funds through the Aerospace PERTE and managed by the CDTI, the project is led by Thales Alenia Space in Spain. Grupo Oesía is responsible for developing the photon source, which is essential for generating the optical states used to encode quantum information, as well as the control and processing electronics for the quantum random number generator (QRNG) in a space environment.

The company recently reached a milestone by delivering advanced engineering models to Thales Alenia Space for integration with the QKD payload.
