Grupo Peñaflor invests U$S 119 million in Mendoza winery

Grupo Peñaflor has announced a major investment of over U$S 119 million in Mendoza, Argentina, to construct a sustainable, automated winery in the Valle de Uco. The project includes an initial U$S 44 million for a plant capable of producing 16 million liters of wine annually from 20 million kilograms of grapes, followed by an additional U$S 75 million for a state-of-the-art automated bottling line. The development is expected to create 150 construction jobs and 40 specialized professional roles by the end of next year.

Simultaneously, the agricultural landscape in the Cuyo region is shifting as pistachio cultivation expands. According to AgroFides, pistachio acreage increased by 20% between 2024 and 2025, adding 1,800 hectares primarily in San Juan and Mendoza. This growth is driven by rising global demand and higher profitability compared to traditional viticulture. As the wine industry faces challenges such as declining consumption and shrinking margins, some producers are diversifying into high-value crops like pistachios, which are increasingly competing for land historically used for vineyards.
