Grupo Peñoles invests $776 million in exploration and assets

Grupo Peñoles invested approximately $776 million in exploration and fixed assets to sustain its operations and strengthen technological infrastructure. Of this total, $231 million was allocated to exploration, representing an 8.8 percent increase compared to 2024, while $545 million was directed toward fixed assets, a 22.1 percent increase.

Key projects include the Reina del Cobre copper-zinc project in Durango, where exploration drilling has identified inferred resources of 30 million tons of mineral. Additionally, the company is conducting exploration at the Velardeña mine to extend its operational life by an estimated 14 years. Velardeña produces 400 tons of zinc concentrate daily, which is sent to Metmex, the largest metallurgical plant in Latin America.

While overall metal production saw an annual decline in 2025, the first half of the year showed increases in gold, silver, lead, copper, and zinc. Specifically, copper concentrate production rose by 27.7 percent year-over-year in the second quarter, driven by production at Tizapa and improved recovery rates at the Velardeña mine in Durango, Capela in Guerrero, and Sabinas in Zacatecas.
