Grupo Pestana and Cirsa compete for Casino da Madeira license

Grupo Pestana and Sociedade Figueira Praia are competing for the exclusive license to operate the Casino da Madeira in Funchal. The deadline for submitting proposals for the gaming zone concession ended last week.

The current contract, held by Pestana Casino Park, is valid until December 31, 2026. The regional government of Madeira, which holds responsibility for the Funchal gaming zone, previously extended the existing contract by three years to mitigate losses caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The new concession is set for a 15-year term, with five optional extensions. The winning bidder must pay an initial fee of 15 million euros and commit to a minimum investment of six million euros in the facility. The tender specifications include a 25 km competitive protection zone around the concession, though an exception for Ponta do Pargo may allow for another casino in that specific area.
