Grupo Petrópolis wins gold and bronze at Brazilian Hop Cup

Grupo Petrópolis, the largest brewery with 100% Brazilian capital, has won gold and bronze medals at the 5th edition of the Copa Brasileira de Lúpulo. The company received gold for its Chinook variety and bronze for its Comet variety.

The award-winning hops were cultivated at Fazenda São Francisco, located near the company's factory in Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro. This research project, which began as a pilot in 2018, serves as a laboratory to study how different hop varieties adapt to Brazilian climatic conditions.

Currently, Grupo Petrópolis maintains 7.5 hectares of hop plantations in Teresópolis (RJ) and Uberaba (MG), representing the largest area of hop cultivation approved by the Ministry of Agriculture. Leonardo Penna, a specialist in beer innovation and production at the company, noted that the recognition validates their research efforts and provides an opportunity to share adaptation results with other producers.
