Grupo Relámpagos completes 2,220 aerial emergency operations in Estado de México

The Grupo Relámpagos emergency response unit in the State of Mexico has completed 2,220 aerial operations between September 2023 and July 2026. Under the administration of Governor Delfina Gómez Álvarez, the group has specialized in aeromedical transfers, organ transport for transplants, forest fire support, and search and rescue missions.

Marking its 32nd anniversary on August 21, the unit currently consists of 70 specialized personnel, including pilots, paramedics, and maintenance staff. The group has received several accolades, including the Presea Estado de México in 2025 and recognition from the National Transplant Center (CENATRA) in 2026 for its participation in the national free organ and tissue transport network.

Founded in 1994 for surveillance and security, the group transitioned into specialized medical aviation in 1995. Its operational history includes significant interventions during floods in Chiapas, Tabasco, and Hidalgo, as well as support during the 2016 papal visit to Mexico and the COVID-19 pandemic.
