Grzegorz Braun and AfD call for Nord Stream restoration
During a conference in Lubmin, Germany, Polish MEP Grzegorz Braun and representatives of the German Alternative for Germany (AfD) party called for the restoration of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. Braun argued that instead of boycotting the project, Poland should seek to become a shareholder and participate in the energy infrastructure linking Berlin and Moscow.
Both Braun and AfD members, including Steffen Kotré, criticized the European Green Deal and EU climate policies, advocating for a return to cheaper energy sources, including Russian gas and coal, to support European economies. Braun also suggested reviving a trilateral political dialogue between Poland, Germany, and Russia.
These statements drew sharp criticism from Polish officials. Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka described supporting the Nord Stream project as being “contrary to Polish energy interests and our state reason,” accusing the proponents of aligning themselves with Russian interests. Stanisław Żaryn, an adviser to former President Andrzej Duda, also criticized the stance, claiming it promotes a political line that serves Russia.
