Grzegorz Braun urges President Nawrocki to veto ‘Lex Szarlatan’ bill

Grzegorz Braun and the Konfederacja Korony Polskiej party have issued a formal appeal to Polish President Karol Nawrocki to veto a proposed amendment to the Patient Rights and Patient Ombudsman Act, colloquially referred to as ‘Lex Szarlatan’ or ‘Lex Big Pharma’.

The opposition argues that the legislation threatens individual freedoms, parental rights, and medical confidentiality. While the party states they do not oppose the prosecution of fraudulent actors who exploit the sick, they contend that the law could establish an oppressive system of administrative censorship regarding health debates and treatment methods.

Critics, including lawyer Arkadiusz Tetela and the STOP NOP Association led by Justyna Socha, have raised concerns regarding the broad competencies granted to officials. They argue the law may allow for arbitrary decisions, including the power to mandate the cessation of certain practices and impose financial sanctions without sufficient procedural guarantees or objective legal standards.
