Grzegorz Dębowski’s film enters Venice Film Festival competition
Grzegorz Dębowski’s film ‘Cudze rzeczy’ (Other People’s Things) has entered the Orizzonti competition at the Venice International Film Festival. The film follows Kasia, a woman who makes a living by breaking into apartments. After accidentally entering the home of a recently deceased man, she begins to impersonate his partner to secure assets, eventually finding herself navigating the man’s memories and relationships.
Critical reception has been mixed but notable. While some reviewers have questioned the film’s credibility due to its plot twists, others have praised its humanistic qualities. Argentine critic Diego Lerer described the work as a ‘raw, contemporary urban fairy tale’ that offers hope amidst the typically somber landscape of Eastern European cinema. Polish journalist Dawid Dróżdż noted that while the film may not dominate the festival, it is a work likely to spark audience discussion.
