Grzegorz Lato urges Robert Lewandowski to retire from Poland national team

Former Polish Football Association president Grzegorz Lato has called for national team captain Robert Lewandowski to retire from international football. The 38-year-old forward has faced intense scrutiny following a five-match goal drought and a recent winless run for Poland.

Lato cited Lewandowski’s recent performances, specifically a 0-0 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina, as evidence that the striker may have reached his physical limits. Comparing him to Lionel Messi, who stepped away from international duty at 38, Lato suggested that Lewandowski must decide when to leave to ensure his legacy is defined by his historic achievements rather than a decline in form.

Adding to the criticism, Wojciech Kowalczyk described Lewandowski as a ‘drag’ on the team’s performance during recent matches. The debate follows Poland’s recent struggles, including a 1-3 defeat to Sweden, where Mateusz Żukowski’s performance prompted discussions regarding the team's lineup.
