Górzyca celebrates 750 years as the Lubuskie Diocese seat
Commemorations are underway in Górzyca to mark the 750th anniversary of the relocation of the Lubuskie Diocese seat from Lebus to Górzyca in 1276. The celebrations include a two-day event focused on the history of the borderland region.
As part of the jubilee, Bishop Adrian Put presided over a Holy Mass and the reconsecration of the local parish church following extensive renovations. The event emphasized the continuity of faith and the responsibility of current generations to preserve the church for the future.
In conjunction with the anniversary, the X Colloquia Lubuskie scientific session was held in Ośnie Lubuskie. The session, titled ‘Górzyca Sanctuary through the Ages’, featured lectures on medieval Marian cults, archaeological findings, and the history of the medieval pilgrimage movement. Presentations highlighted artifacts such as medieval pilgrim badges and ceramic items that serve as material evidence of the region's religious heritage.
