GS Group to build AI data center ecosystem with startups

GS Group Chairman Heo Tae-soo announced plans to foster a domestic AI data center technology ecosystem by collaborating with startups. Speaking at the ‘2026 GS Ventures Tech Day’ in Seoul, Heo emphasized that innovative startup technologies could provide solutions to technical bottlenecks currently facing AI data centers.

The event showcased various technologies, including energy efficiency solutions from Synergy, hydrogen fuel cell solutions from Vincen, and CXL-based intelligent memory from Exina. Cooling innovations were also presented, such as direct-to-chip liquid cooling from Coolmicro and immersion cooling systems from SDT. Additionally, Elice Group introduced modular AI data centers, while Vesl AI presented GPU cloud technology specialized for AI computations.

GS Group is pursuing large-scale AI data center construction, with plans to begin phased completion of a 1.2GW facility in Donghae, Gangwon State, starting in 2028. The group aims to eventually expand this to a total capacity of 2.4GW, with an estimated total investment of 30 trillion won.
